  2. 1John 4:7 – 5:5 Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent His One and Only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God remains in us and His love is perfected in us. This is how we know that we remain in Him and He in us: He has given assurance to us from His Spirit. And we have seen and we testify that the Father has sent His Son as the world’s Saviour. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God — God remains in him and he in God. And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.In this, love is perfected with us so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, for we are as He is in this world. There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. So the one who fears has not reached perfection in love. We love because He first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For the person who does not love his brother he has seen cannot love the God he has not seen. And we have this command from Him: The one who loves God must also love his brother. Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of Him. This is how we know that we love God’s children when we love God and obey His commands. For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden, because whatever has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

  3. 2 billion people across the world claim to be a Christian • Can we prove that we are a Christian? • If I was arrested for being a Christian, would there be sufficient evidence to convict me? • Jesus said – if you love Me, keep My commandments, John 14:16. • About 60 years later John writes to make sure that we are not fooling ourselves! • He lays out 10 tests so that we can prove it!

  4. The nature of Christ’s salvation is woefully misrepresented by many evangelists today. They announce a Saviour from hell, rather than a Saviour from sin; and that is why there are so many that are badly deceived, for there are multitudes who wish to escape the Lake of Fire who have no desire to be delivered from their carnality and worldliness! • Deception is greater than ever before!

  6. The Tests of Faith in 1 John The Christian Life as the Life of Love - 1 John 4:16b God lives in him, We live in God The complete ‘chain’ that secures the life of love Such blessedness! That’s the communion God desires; Eden restored individually! John is primarily testing faith, are we born of God or not? But also it can be the proof of a believer in or out of the will of God, new nature or sinful nature operating. It is the habitual state that decides which scenario. However in the current paucity of church testimony, identifying the two is very hard. living In love God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us.

The broken chain that loses the enjoyment of a life of love living In love If this is the habitual state, then it possibly indicates that the person is a Pretend Christian.   16. What a wonderful gospel message! We can be the people God wants us to be! But we have enemies who want to deny us that. The sinful nature!

  20. 3 Prophecies in John’s gospel that show that God is about to be glorified in His people! • On the contrary, I am going away so that the world may know that I love the Father. 14:31 • May they also be one in Us, so the world may believe You sent Me. 17:21 • May they be made completely one, so the world may know You have sent Me and have loved them as You have loved Me. 17:23

  21. The Challenge! • Do we believe the Bible? • Do we pray that God will be glorified? • Do we work to that end? • God always seeks to bless … far more than we can ask or imagine, according to the power that is in us! Eph 3:20 • Revival is not a date on God’s calendar, but a deep desire in our hearts!
