  2. Conjunctivitis, (better known as Pink Eye), is a highly contagious infection of the eye which can be contracted in many ways. Ways Pink Eye can be caught: • Viruses • Bacteria • Allergies • Contact with another person who has it Symptoms of Pink Eye: • Redness of the eye or eyelid • Yellow discharge which causes the eye to crust over; making it nearly impossible to open the eye without being cleaned • Burning or itchy eyes • Blurred vision Source: www.m.webmd.com/eye-health-conjunctivitis

  3. Treatment The treatment for pink eye depends highly on the way it was contracted. • Eye drops, (doctor prescribed) • Washing of the eye, periodically • Must run its course, much like a common cold • Allergy must be removed, cured, then the eye will return to normal Source: www.m.webmd.com/eye-health-conjunctivitis?page=2

  4. School Policy • If a student shows signs of conjunctivitis, the parent will first be notified and asked to get doctor’s recognition if the student does have pink eye. • If the student does have pink eye, he or she will be required to miss school until all symptoms are gone and a doctor’s note permitting the child back into the classroom is accompanied with the child to the office. • When a student in a classroom is found to have pink eye, the teacher will clean and sanitize every door knob, desk, book, chair, etc.., with Lysol and notify all parents.
