  10. Carquinez Bridge Replacement • Project Description: • New suspension bridge with HOV and bike lanes to replace seismically deficient 1927 bridge for westbound traffic. • Current budget: $480 million • Open to traffic date:October 2003 • Status/issues: • Foundation and towers are complete • Cable work nearly complete • Deck construction begins February 2003

New Benicia-Martinez Bridge • Project Description: • New viaduct bridge with bike lane to add capacity for I-680 across Carquinez Stait. • Current budget: $653 million(subject to change) • Open to traffic: December 2004(subject to delays) • Status/issues: • Work completed on two of nine deep water piers • Additional deep water foundation work suspended November 2002 due to fish impacts from pile driving • Construction proceeds on new toll plaza and adjacent interchanges.

  14. State Budget Crisis • $35 billion state deficit • Governor proposes to suspend Prop. 42 and cut at least $1.8 billion in transportation spending • Dozens of Bay Area projects at risk, including I-80/I-680 and SR 12 Jameson Canyon projects
