  2. What Is Cancer? 2 main characteristics are: • uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the human body and • the ability of these cells to migrate from the original site and spread to distant sites

  4. Cancer Today • Half of people with cancer survive at least 10 years • In 2010 2 million people were living with cancer; there will be 4 million by 2030 • 50% increase in suspected cancer referrals since 2009/10 • • The NHS has a £30bn funding gap between 2013/14 and 2020

  15. Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist • A nominated individual with specialised knowledge of a specific disease and cancer who can provide support to patients and their carers, during the malignant disease rapid diagnosis pathway and co-ordinate further ongoing care and/or treatment.
