  1. The Big ShoutER More than Lip Service

  2. Past of the Project/how it started • Past • The Big ShoutER came about when young service users from the Place @ East Renfrewshire Youth Health Service in Barrhead and Clarkston Clinics expressed an interest in having more of a say in the delivery of the youth health service. • After we met with staff from the project and we put together a plan to start a peer education, user involvement and community research project. • We had put a plan together after the staff told us that other young people from East Dunbartonshire were working on a similar project and suggested we do some joint training on health issues and youth engagement. • We then met with the East Dunbartonshire Young People a few times before going on a residential to do some training. •  After the residential we had participated in Health Issues in the Community taster sessions.

  3. Past/Present of the project • We have done a lot of research on different health topics and what young people think about them. • This had led us to speak at different local and national conferences including: • The launch of tobacco control strategy in East Renfrewshire, • 16 Days of Action, • National Sexual Health Conference. •  ASH Scotland STCA Youth and Tobacco Conference • Health Issues in the Community event • We have Run a workshop at SPEN event (Scottish Peer Education Network.

  4. Present/Future of the Project • Our project is a Peer Education Project and as part of this we have consulted to YP about what their health issues are. • We got about 250 responses from the YP and we have made a patch work quilt with all of the responses on it, so that we can present our findings to managers, other service providers and The Health Event we are planning to do round about January to March. • You will all be invited to it.
