  1. Ocean changes will cool Europe Group6 Ching, Neko, Jade, Mimi, Eva, Syrina, Lydia

  2. Ocean changes will cool Europe • The scientist say that: Ocean currents in Atlantic may cool European weather in a few decades • The currents from the gulf steam are weakening, Bringing less heat north.

  3. Atmospheric Radiator • After the Caribbean(15N, 75W) emerges from the equator, it splits into two parts: • 1.Heading north east to Europe • 2.Circulating back through the tropical Atlantic

  4. The first part • As the north eastern branch flows, it gives off heat to the atmosphere • Which in turn warms European Land • It reaches the northern latitudes around Green and Iceland.

  5. The normal condition of the first part • After it splits into two parts, the first part heading north east to Europe • The water has cooled so much • So it sink towards the ocean floor (hotcold) • This process know as “overturning” • This cooler water heads south, forming the return steam of a conveyor belt

  6. The complete cycle: • 1. Warm water coming northwards on the ocean’ surface • 2.Cold water returning hundreds and thousands of metres underwater • It has constant over the last 50years.

  7. The change of first part • 30% decline in the southwards flow of deep cold water = less overturning World map 1.doc

  8. World Map

  9. The first evidence • Computer models of climate shows that the north Atlantic conveyor may • 1.Reduce in intensity • 2.Turn off altogether

  10. What happens are that as Arctic ice melts and Arctic rivers flow faster? • 1. The northern oceans • Less saline because arctic ice melts • Less salinity= a lower density • Waters then cannot sink • Conveyor weakens • If it turned off completely, Europe would cool by perhaps 4℃ -6℃

  11. Conclusion • Every things happened must have causality. • Here is the chain. • Greenhouse effect Arctic ice melts less salinity in the ocean lower density waters cannot sink conveyor weakens The heat could not been bought to the northern hemisphere from the equator by the ocean currents The weather will become cold

  12. Reflection After we have done this project. We realize that we shouldn't waste our natural resources because everyone must pay for anything that they have done. For example, human need to pay for the pollutions, such as this problem. We hope that everyone can understand reason. Thank you!
