  3. 5 Kinds of Nouns • 1. Common – names a person, place, thing, or idea. • 2. Proper – names a particular person, place, thing, or idea. • 3. Concrete – names things that can be seen, heard, touched, smelled, or tasted. • 4. Abstract – names an idea, feeling, quality, or characteristic. • 5. Collective – names a group of people or things.

  4. Singular & Plural Nouns Singular Nouns Plural Nouns • Singular nouns name one person, place, thing, or idea. • Plural nouns name two or more people, places, things, or ideas.

  5. Possessive Nouns • Possessive nouns shows ownership of the person, place thing, or idea. • Rule 1 : for a singular (one) noun add an apostrophe and an S = ‘S. • Rule 2 : for a plural (2 or more) noun that ends in an S, only add apostrophe after the plural noun. • Rule 3 : for a plural (2 or more) noun that does not end in S, add an apostrophe and S.
