  1. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry (ZIOC) of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dr. A. Iaroch 12-13 November, 2001 Como - Milan

  2. History of Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry (ZIOC) • The Institute was founded on February 23, 1934. • One of the world’s largest scientific centers in the field of organic chemistry, catalysis and chemistry of biologically active compounds • In 1953 the Institute was named after N.D. Zelinsky

  3. ZIOC General Research Areas • Physical and Synthetic Organic Chemistry (21 Laboratories) • Organic Chemistry of Natural Compounds (4 Laboratories) • Catalytic Organic Synthesis and Physico-Chemical Grounds of Catalysis (12 Laboratories) • Computational Chemistry and Modern Information Technologies (3 Laboratories)

  4. Application of Technologies • New methods and technological processes of synthesis of practically important compounds: • terpenoids on the basis of reactions of acetylene in liquid ammonia and hydration under high pressure; • precursors for artificial amino acids via nitration of acetoacetates; • sugar intermediates by cellulose pyrolysis • Development of original processes for recovery and purification of raw materials from forestry, coke industry and agricultural waste

  5. Fluorosilicon protectants against harmful environmental exposure of cultural monuments-1 Methods for the synthesis and application of fluorosilicone protective agents designed for preventing degradation of building materials (limestone, stucco, concrete, etc.), paper and wood under the impact of harmful environmental factors were developed

  6. Fluorosilicon protectants against harmful environmental exposure of cultural monuments-2 • Advantages of new method: • The protectants do not create a continuous hydro- and oleophobic film on the surface of building materials and do not actually change their vapor permeability • Water absorption of pretreated building materials reduces by a factor of 13 and the contact angles treated with water and organic liquids reach 1300 and 1100, respectively

  7. Fluorosilicone protectants against harmful environmental exposure of cultural monuments-3 • Advantages of new method: • The protectants inhibit growth of algae and mould on the stone surface • Paper documents, when treated with the protectors, become more waterproof and less sensitive to mould and at the same time retain physico-chemical and mechanical characteristics of paper • Wooden constructions upon their treatment with fluorosilicone protective agents exhibit lower water absorption and retain their texture

  8. List of cooperation partners abroad • DuPont Agricultural Products (USA) • ExxonMobil (USA) • Haldor Topsoe AS (Denmark) • Bayer AG (Germany) • Ajinomoto Co. Ltd. (Japan) • Rohm & Haas (USA) • Daikin Corporation (Japan) • UOPLIC (USA); SNPE (France) • BP-Amoco (UK-USA) • BioLitec AG (Germany)

  9. Types of cooperation • We are open for any type of partnership: • contracts • licensing • joint research efforts • and any other forms
