  5. Famous Creeds Apostle’s Creed – from about 250AD Nicene Creed – from about 325 AD Athanasian Creed – from about 500AD Westminster Confession – 1645AD

  6. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

  7. Some Questions About Creeds What makes a Creed? Are they accurate? Are they authorized? Are they sinful?

What Makes a Creed? “Churches in different cities and regions made their own lists, which had many points in common, …… The small differences were eventually eliminated as church leaders discussed these things with one another. …….Churches throughout the empire agreed on which books should form the New Testament, and they agreed on several basic statements of faith.”

  11. What Makes a Creed? Consensus makes creeds! Consensus nearly expelled Gentiles Now the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision contended with him Acts 11:1-2

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Hebrews 6:1-2
