  3. Brainstorm - Goals and Mission • Goals - Think Big Picture • Specific or General? • What would you like your students to get out of their Marching Experience? • Think ‘buzzwords’…

Brainstorm - Goals and Mission • A Mission Statement - More specific • A justification on why the students should be there • A justification on why parents should trust you with the education of their child • A justification to other faculty and administrators • Find a mission statement online

  5. The Attendance Policy • This sets your guidelines and the students guidelines • Express why rehearsal and performance attendance is important • What is excused/unexcused? • What are the clear consequences? • Make sure you can live with it… • Alternates? Reserves? Why? • Above all - BE CONSISTENT!!

  6. How can you make these important and clear? • Goals, Mission, and Attendance Policy should be found in your Band Handbook!

  7. WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?? • Discuss - Who are the successful band directors? What makes them great? Are there common traits? • Think about what you need to make stronger in yourself… • DO THE THINGS THAT SCARE YOU! • A System for Everything - Create for yourself a system for success!
