  1. Poaching

  2. Poaching is when poachers kill animals in an inhumane way to get parts of the bodies to either eat or sell. Poaching is illegal and can cause lots of harm to our environment, in some cases it leads to extinction. Animals some times are left alive without body parts but normally are killed prior to this. What is Poaching? Why people do this? It is told people do this for food and selling of body parts such as rhino feet are used to make bowls, elephant tusks are used to make ivory, and monkeys are killed to be eaten. Some people do this for money or fun, thrill. They think it is alright to do this and they don’t really care.

  3. Decreasing of animal species The decreasing of animal species over the world is causing extinction in many animals. Rhinos and elephants population decreased severely in 1980s and 1990s due to poaching. About 90 percent of rhino deaths occur because of humans cutting of there horns to make dagger handles in north uemen and to make medicines. In some Asian markets rhino horns sell for $16,535 to $22,046 per kg. Between 2002 and 2010 the Indian tigers population dropped 40 percent.

  4. There are many different methods that people use such as • Snare wire- the snare wire is a long wire that the animal gets trapped in once it is trapped around the neck it strangles it. This method is used in Kenya and Tanzania • Spears and dogs- another method is to use a dog to distract the animal and then spear it. • Trap nets- people or dogs chase the animals towards the net to capture it. • Pitfalls- these are used to capture large animals such as elephants so that they cover the hole and the animal falls in it. • Arrows and bows- arrows and bows are usually made out of products found in the forest, some points are poisoned. • Snare like trap- snap small animals mainly used by communities in the • Rwenzori area. • Horse shoe like trap- when the animal steps on the iron shoe it gets trapped. In some cases people have been trapped in this, more often it is women or children going into the forest to get fire wood or food, these traps may leave you with a broken leg or foot or you may die. 5. The consequences of poaching can cause extinction in many countries and also spread diseases, one of the main problems in Congo is the spreading of the Ebola virus which is believed to be transmitted through monkeys. Animals who feed on only one species are dying out due to the lack of their food source being around. Consequences
