Screen #: 1 Summary: Introductory slide with Assignment title and introduction Case Study: Ervin Introduction This purpose of this activity is to help you familiarize yourself with a typical social-work case that you would encounter in the field. You will review documents and communications from others involved in the case before “interviewing” Ervin, the juvenile in the foster care system. Scene would go here.

Screen #: 2 Summary: Lesson objectives and directions Case Study: Ervin Objectives When reviewing information and the Ervin interview, keep in mind factors that will help you engage, assess and make recommendations for Ervin’s care. Directions Click on each of the following items to get more information on Ervin before your in-office interview: • Phone • Binders • Email After each item is reviewed, you will be prompted to continue. You must click on each item to progress. Objectives & Directions Scene would go here. Navigation Notes: A menu with the objectives and directions is located at the top of the page so that students can refer back to them at any time during the lesson. When selected, this item will appear as a pop-up.

Screen #: 3 Summary: This screen begins the scenario by making the computer, binders and phone click-able items to allow students to listen to voice mails, access documents and read emails regarding Ervin. Case Study: Ervin Objectives & Directions Navigation Notes: A menu with the objectives and directions is located at the top of the page so that students can refer back to them at any time during the lesson. When selected, this item will appear as a pop-up. By clicking either the phone, binders or computer, students will advance to another slide where they will be able to gather information. When finished, students will return to this page. When all items have been accessed, they will be able to navigate to the next page. Animation Notes: The phone, binders and computer will have a rollover effect

  4. Screen #: 3a Summary: This screen shows the phone and allows students to hear voice mails regarding the Ervin case. Phone would be enlarged to show screen. Case Study: Ervin Objectives & Directions Navigation Notes: A menu with the objectives and directions is located at the top of the page so that students can refer back to them at any time during the lesson. When selected, this item will appear as a pop-up. Animation Notes: Phone will have flashing buttons that when clicked, play audio files

  5. Screen #: 3b Summary: This screen shows a close up view of the computer screen with an email inbox. Students must read through emails before continuing to the next item. Case Study: Ervin Objectives & Directions Navigation Notes: A menu with the objectives and directions is located at the top of the page so that students can refer back to them at any time during the lesson. When selected, this item will appear as a pop-up. Animation Notes: Unread emails will be appear highlighted on the screen.

  6. Screen #: 3c Summary: This screen shows click-able binders that students can open to access documents from schools, previous case files and other agencies that are related to the Ervin case. Case Study: Ervin Objectives & Directions Navigation Notes: A menu with the objectives and directions is located at the top of the page so that students can refer back to them at any time during the lesson. When selected, this item will appear as a pop-up. Animation Notes: When clicked, binders will open to show various documents that relate to the Ervin case.

He can be interviewed through audio with a text dialogue bubble Case Study: Ervin Objectives & Directions Ervin’s dialogue Navigation Notes: When Ervin’s image is clicked, that activates his interview via audio and a pop-up text box to the left of his picture. Animation Notes: Ervin’s image will have a rollover effect

  8. Screen #: 5 Summary: This slide concludes the assignment by directing students to choose questions to answer about the case study that they will then post on the course discussion board. Assignment Respond to question 1 and then select two additional questions from the list to answer. Post to course Discussion Board “Ervin” and respond to two other student’s posts. (Due dates and further directions such as length/citations needed) • What strategies would you use to engage Ervin? • What kind of assessment questions would you ask Ervin? • Did Ervin benefit from “good enough parenting”? • Discuss object constancy, part objects and whole objects in the case of Ervin. • What attachment style do you think he experienced throughout his childhood? • What interventions would you use with Ervin?
