  1. Evaluation In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My media product uses, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products by including the key conventions of a music magazine. Which are cover stories that would be shown through cover lines on a front page. As well as news about music such as new gigs and new albums that have been released. Also contents pages and double page spreads which give the audience news and insights to the genre of music the magazine promotes. For my own magazine I have used a masthead, cover lines and a background picture, these are all features that you would expect to see on a professional magazine. With the help of my audience feedback I was able to create a better magazine through the replies I received by improving these aspects. A typical contents page includes page numbers and titles of the articles as well as pictures of the topics discussed and written about. A typical double page spread includes a picture or a few of the topic the article is talking about. My media product develops these typical pages and makes them suit my music magazine. I have taken the basicand made them specific to the genre my magazine has. I have included these conventions in my own magazine by, using and creating my own Masthead and cover lines. 2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Continued from the previous page… I have done several things differently. I have made almost like a picture for my masthead. I think that by doing this I have made my magazine different and creative. I have also, for my double page spread, used just one picture and text boxes with a almost transparent background to it. I have done this so that the text can be seen and read with ease. I think that I haven’t pushed many boundaries as such. Although I have done a few things differently as some music magazines would have. And in these ways my media product, my music magazine uses, develops, challenges forms and conventions of real media products.

  3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? I have represented teenagers in my music magazine. They would be fans of Indi pop, pop, country pop and alternative rock. I have represented them by including subjects that would be of interest to them as well as having pictures of bands of that age range. For example, on my first contents page (to the right), both the pictures are of teenagers, the same age, if not slightly older than the teenage social group. This way my audience might be more inclined to buy the magazine. The images that I have used, the language I have used is easy to understand. The ratio of text to pictures is fairly equal.

  4. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? The kind of media institution that might distribute my media product could be Bauer Media Group, IPC media and/or Future Publishing. They already publish magazines like mine. They are also well known so it was easy to find information about them. A company might want to distribute my magazine because it has much to offer its target audience. The features and articles that are included in my music magazine are numbered and different. With the different features that my magazine offers this means that my audience have a lot to be interested in, and also it gives the audience a difference in what there is to read, look at and to generally take interest in. Another reason why a company might want to distribute my music magazine is that my magazine has a flair of attitude and character that is unusual and bold. For example, the name of my magazine is KJ, Kicking Jukebox. This in itself is bold and different. Because of my magazine’s chance to be popular, this means that it could in theory, produce a lot of interest and profit.
