November 17, 2010 Voice Day 1“The Birth of the Constitution of the U.S.” • How is the voice of the essay initially established? • How do you think Thomas Paine felt about the beginnings of the United States? • If I say the voice is engaged or inspired, what evidence can you pull from the text to support that voice? • What are some other words you could use to describe the voice?

  2. Student Goals • Compare print and non-print text. • Read independently to identify the protagonist’s motivation.

  3. This painting is Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Look again at the Ringgold painting. What do you notice about Van Gogh in the painting? Also, he painted Sunflowers in Arles, France. You can see the street in Arles he worked and lived on in Ringgold’s painting.

  4. Homework • Week 12 by Monday, Nov. 22. • Quiz on “Everyday Use” on Friday, Nov. 19. Exit Ticket: Write a quick paragraph identifying the protagonist’s motivation in your novel. Remember to include the title of the novel and the specific name of the protagonist.
