Legislature • independent constitutional body • protecting the fundamental rights and freedoms if activities, decision making or inactivity of the public administration bodies are inconsistent with legal order • readiness of the Office of the PDR to fulfill the role of independent mechanism applied by theConvention on the Rights of the Child • section wordings of relevant proposals was submittedto the relevant state authorities

Proposed Legislative Changes • extension of the PDR’s field of activity forall rights and freedoms • explicit expression of PDR mandate to protect Rights of Child in Act on PDR • to define a „child“ as a object of protection by PDR (extension to young people over 18 in specific cases) • extension of PDR competences when dealing with Rights of Child (including child-friendly investigation of cases) • monitoring the application of Rights of Child and extension of Annual report to special part dealing with Rights of Child

Project on Children Ombudsmen • children webpage www.detskyombudsman.sk • 1st year of existence(established 1st June 2009) • more than 350 childrens’ questions answered • most questions relate to school and family • children conference „The Rights of the Child through Childrens’ Eyes“ • opinions and suggestions of children were presented • discussion between children and state authorities was held • collection of presentations was published and distributed
