  4. Who Are We? The Center for Sharing Public Health Services is a national initiative managed by the Kansas Health Institute with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

  5. Center’s Goal • Increase the ability of public health agencies to improve the health of communities by helping explore, inform, track and share learning about regional and shared approaches to delivering public health services.

  6. Center - Role 1:Support • Assist public health agencies and policymakers • Explore • Analyze • Plan • Implement • Monitor Approaches to share public health functions and services

  7. Support Tools • Process and decision-making tools • Case studies • Translation of evidence • Expert consultation and TA models • Legal • Governance • Financial • Other

Center - Role 2:Share • Support a Shared Services Learning Community to understand the opportunity and impact of CJS on public health practice • Facilitate peer-to-peer sharing and learning • Identify and share successful processes, innovative approaches • Share documented examples of cross-jurisdictional sharing • Encourage discussion on crucial questions, barriers, challenges, solutions

  11. Support for Learning Sites • 17 sites • Up to $125,000 for two years • Projects start in January 2013

  12. Teams at Learning Sites • Teams funded will be • Exploring, implementing or improving CJS • Working with two or more PH agencies • Made up of PH officials, policy makers, others and will include a communications coordinator • Committed to • achieving greater efficiency • enhanced public health capacity • collaboration • A contributor to the Learning Community

Examples of Proposed CJS Activities • Exploration of CJS across 2-18 counties • Emergency preparedness response plan • TB control activities • Dental health program • I.D. control across tribes and counties • Environmental public health services • Consolidation of multiple agencies into one • Several applicants are interested in exploring relationship between CJS and accreditation

  14. CJS and Accreditation • Two mechanisms to apply “sharing” to accreditation: • Multiple agencies apply independently • Multiple agencies apply jointly (MJ application) Demonstrate proficiency on shared elements through sharing agreements
