  1. Aruni and Upmanyu

  2. This story is Hindu and it is about real life heroes... Aruni and Upmanyu went to RishiDhaumya for knowledge and there they had to search for guru. Once they found him and they had to go away from home and to do everything he said but in return Guru taught them everything he knew.

  3. One day, the guru decided to test Aruni and Upmanyu's faith.  He told them to take the ashram's cows to graze in the jungle.  The guru told them not to take any food and not to eat anything from the jungle.  Aruni and Upmanyu obeyed their guru's command...

  4. A few days passed, and the guru wondered how they were surviving without eating.  The guru asked them, and Upmanyu replied, "We drink the cow's milk when we get hungry."  Pleased with this response, he then commanded them not to drink the milk.  Aruni and Upmanyu did not take any food, eat anything from the jungle, and didn't drink the cows' milk.  But when they became hungry, they begged for alms and ate what they collected.  When their guru found out they had begged, he gave them yet another agna.  Now they could not take food, eat from the jungle, drink milk from the cows or beg for alms.

  5. For three or four days, Aruni and Upmanyudidn't think about their hunger.  Finally, they could no longer stand the hunger. They ate some berries. But, the berries were poisonous, and the boys became blind.  As they walked on blindly, they fell into a well.  The guru became worried when the boys did not return to the ashram.  He decided to go out and look for them. He called out their names and the boys answered from the well.  The guru helped them out, and was pleased with their obedience and devotion. He was happy that they had followed his every agna. So, he asked the doctor of the gods, Ashwinikumar, to restore their eyesight.

  6. So they are now heroes because Guru was pleased with them so if they can become heroes, we can too!
