CHARM Update • Goal of the facility: • Complexmixed particlefieldpresentwithin the accelerators • Simultaneouseffect (TID, DD, SEE) • In the framework of the R2E project the testing of electronicequipment in a radiation fieldsimilar to CERN acceleratorsis crucial → Assure mid-long termoperationrequirements • Facility not onlyuseful for CERN accelerators but also for : • Groundlevel and atmosphericenvironment(neutron energyspectra) • Spaceenvironment(representative for the inner proton radiation belt) • Size of the test area (severaltens of m3): • Large objectscanbeirradiated • Evenobjects in operationwith services connected (power, cooling…) • Can also host satelittes, part of cars or planes.

News • Schedule: • We are on the way → around 2 monthsbeforegetting first beam → Everypieces/blocks/systems of CHARM are building/mountingeachday. • Commissioningshouldstart in August. • OperationshouldstartduringSeptember up to the 8th of December. • In order to prepare the CHARM operationschedule, the beam time requestform has been sent to the RadWGlist and externalusers. • For the moment someusers (alsoexternal) showedinterest of suchfacility (e. g. BNL, LHC experiments etc…) • FromRadWG, I have not yetreceivedanyfilledform. • Anycommentsregarding the beam time requestform ? • Information: • The new websiteisavailableherehttp://charm.web.cern.ch/CHARM/ • You canalsofind information about the availablecables on-site. http://charm.web.cern.ch/CHARM/Cables.php
