Faculty Satisfaction Survey—Fast Facts • Survey administered periodically; since 2006, every two years (October-November) • Current survey developed internally (in 2006); no external benchmarks • Office of Faculty Affairs and UMHS Quality Improvement work together to design, maintain, administer survey, and to analyze, compile, and report results.

  3. Survey Administration • Data collection online using Qualtrics survey platform • Survey is anonymous • Within survey, faculty self-classify themselves by their: • Clinical Department (and division for larger departments) • Current Status • ACU, if clinical • Other Demographics

  4. General Survey Design • Survey is “modular” in design: • Some common questions for all faculty • Some exclusive questions limited to clinical and research activities, based on faculty self-identification

  5. General Survey Topics Rated • Leadership (Dean’s Office, Department Chairs, Division Chiefs, Administrators) • Colleagues (respect and support) • Satisfaction with clinical practice (modular) • Satisfaction with research-related activities (modular) • Teaching, organizational service experiences • Mentorship, career management, work-life balance • Awareness of salary/benefits competitiveness • Overall job satisfaction, self-reported measures of likelihood of retention

Factors Influencing Overall Job Satisfaction • Existence of Mentor (formally or informally): • 71.5% of valid responses were “yes” • Overall job satisfaction: 73.9 • 28.5% of valid responses were “no” • Overall job satisfaction: 58.2 • Difference: 15.7 points; a statistically significant difference • (126 respondents did not answer the question)
