  1. TheEmergency Planning Society Towards a brand positioning

  2. Conclusions from the analysis • We must stop getting lost in our own rhetoric • We are a membership service organisation • 98% of our income is from membership fees • We have limited market scale/scope for membership increases given organisational cut backs • Income growth opportunities are also limited: • Increase membership charges and/or • Sell access to members (eg advertising or sponsorship) • We must concentrate on developing real member benefits

  3. Conclusions continued.. • The participation of our members is key • Review our core purpose to rediscover our vocation • Public Safety • Professional development IeVOCATIONAL EXCELLENCE,.. Supported by education, research and the sharing of best practice • The role of the branches and their Chairman is key: • Most members are located and experience EPS in the branches • We must increase the importance of the chairman in the structure • They are our recruiting sergeants

  4. Conclusions continued… • Don’t forget the public stupid! Protecting them is what we do. • It’s ‘professional development’ not CPD (We’re not an award granting body although we do award Membership and Fellowship) • Charity – decide yes/no for ourselves • ICPEM is merely a side issue • There is a key difference between the elected status of the branch chairmen and the self managed special interest group chairmen. We must reflect this in the structure
