  2. Introduction • One thing that most people don’t know about ancient Greece was their music. • It was important to their culture in many ways. When they played or listened, they were happy, and they believed it healed your body and soul.

  3. There weren’t too many instruments used back then. Some examples though, are the Lyre, the Cithara, the Barbitus, Pandoruris, and the Aulos. Now I will play a rough example of a lyre. Instruments

  4. Where and When • The ancient Greeks played their music for marriage, theater, funerals, religious ceremonies, and poetry. • No exact date know, but people believed music started in 300-500 BCE. • Below is an example of what a Greek wedding might look like.

  5. Musicians • The earliest known musician known was Terrander, born in the 7th century. • From what researchers know, the music was written on papyrus.

  6. Greek music-today • Today’s music sounds sort of like a background music of a Greek restaurant.
