  2. Where Do I Live? • It lives in the rainforests of New Guinea. • The rainforests gets 2,540 mm(rainfall). • Cassowary’s prefers stream banks and clearings. • They hide in caves and under thick tropical trees for shelter.

  3. PhysicalFeatures • They ’re about 6 ft tall. • Black hairy body with long blue neck. • They weigh around 70 kilos. • They have three toes that are very sharp. • They have a brownish horn on their head shaped like a crest. • It has a straight grey beak. • They are birds.

  4. Endangered • The cassowary lives to be 60 but mostly doesn’t because it’s endangered. • Dogs can do bad damage to young chicks. • Men still shoot them even though it is illegal. • There is also a large amount of road kills. • People eat Cassowary eggs. • And they are having habitat lose. • Their predators are feral pigs , men and dogs.

  5. Food Foragers • Cassowaries are omnivores. • They eat nuts, seeds, berries, snails, and small animals. • They are foragers so they don’t kill their prey , they find food that is already dead. • They eat food in an area very quickly. Yum!

  6. Reproduction • Eggs are dark green and 5 to 6 inches. • The male builds the nest out of water proof plant material so the eggs don’t get soaked. • The chicks are cream with brown stripes. • The dad looks after them for 9 months then the chicks have to live on their own.

  7. Behavior • The Cassowary is a shy secretive bird , but if cornered it can be very dangerous . • It’s waddle can change color according to the time of year and mood.

Physicalorbehavior • Physical : Crest on head to run through undergrowth so the head doesn’t get hurt. • Behavior : Razor sharp feet to defend itself. • Physical :Large wedge shaped body so when running it’s body doesn’t get hurt by sharp leaves and vines. • Behavior : It’s shy so it’s color can blend with It’s environment before something even knew it was there.

Inside Of Me • The cassowary’s body structure helps it to eat poisonous plants other animals can’t eat. • Without those trees the rainforest would have a big loss and many animals would lose their environment. • The Cassowary is very important to the rainforest and it’s animals. • The Cassowary has something inside it to help it see in the dark . That means it is nocturnal . • They are safer because there predators aren’t awake at night. • Being nocturnal gives them lots of time to find shelter , get food and move around .

  10. FunFacts • It is related to dinosaurs because it has a lot of dinosaur feature and has the same behavior • The female Is larger than the male. • They were voted most dangerous bird in the world and they got put into The Guinness book of world records in 2006 or 2007.
