  3. Early chapters, cont. • Signs money over to Judge Thatcher • Pap shows up • Kidnaps Huck • Huck fakes own death • Goes to Jackson’s Island

  4. Early chapters, cont. • Jim shows up to avoid being sold • Jim is suspect in Huck’s murder • They run away together • Jim hopes to escape to free states • Jim sees dead man, but won’t let Huck see it.

  5. Middle chapters • Huck pretends to be a girl to get information • They head south on raft, hoping to catch the Ohio (see a map). • They board wrecked steamboat • There are three robbers on it • Men die and Huck feels “sorrowful”
