Crop Specific Strategy for Rabi 2004 • Wheat • Timely and adequate availability of high yielding variety • Balanced use of fertilizer promoting use of single super phosphste and Boron fertilizer • Judicious use of irrigation water and watering at critical growth stages • Promotion of seeding through zero seed drill for timely completion of sowing

  28. New Initiatives • Cotton cultivation in Bihar • Cultivation started in 18 districtsin about 210 ha • Seed supplied by cotton corporation of India • Variety supplied LRA5166 (1250 kg) and F1378 (2926 kg) • Germination is reported at 50-75% • Harvest results are awaited

Special Horticulture programmes • Scheme envisages promotion of Litichies, Mango, Makhana, and spices development for interstate trade and export • Project component includes area expansion, rejuvenation, value addition, market prospecting, transfer of technology etc. • Area coverage: 4 districts • NABARD is the implementing agency • Project outlay 142 crore (approx) and incentive 36 crore (approx)

  31. Success Stories Boro Paddy • It is cultivated in about 2 lakh hectares and increasing exponentially. • Farmers raise seedling through Dapog method. • Government provides subsidy on seed besides training. • It has tremendous potential to increase the productivity of Chour land.

Success Stories Seed production programme inBegusarai • Farmers have organized to produce breeder, foundation and certified seed. • Government has made arrangements for training of farmers and District Agriculture Officer is the patron of the organization. • Mobile seed processing plant has been provided by DRDA. • Technical guidance by KVK and Rajendra Agriculture University • Government has taken land to formalized the Seed Grower Association under Co-operative.

Success Stories Makhana • Unique crop of wet land of North Bihar. • An ambitious scheme of Makhana has been launched in Madhubani District under RSVY. • It is cultivated in about 13,000 hectares and Bihar contributes about 80% of the National production. • Shakti Sudha industries has come up to for value addition. • Export to Arabian countries has started. • Contract farming has been started between farmers and Shakti Sudha.

Success Stories Litchi • Area under Litchi cultivation 27000 hectares. • Litchi is exported to European countries. • AEZ comprising 14 districts have been set up. • Export of fresh and processed Litchi is increasing. • Ambitious scheme of Litchi development has launched under RSVY IN Muzaffarpur district.

Success Stories Organic Basmati • Munger district has taken lead. • It is grown in 600 Acres and increasing every year. • It is exported to European countries. • Seed is supplied by entrepreneur. • Entrepreneur has been trained under Agri- Clinic scheme. • Organic farming is produced through Macro Mode Management.

Success Stories Medicinal & Aromatic Plant • Area has increased from 50 Acres in 2001-02 to 400 Acres in 2004-05. • Distillation plant at production site has been established. • Sale arrangement through NGOs like Rural Agro welfare Centre & Shrishti Foundation has been made. • Government provides subsidy to distillation plants besides training. • Nursery for quality planting material has been established by Rajendra Agriculture University at Patna.
