  1. Energy System Review

  2. ATP-CP (Phosphagen System) • Short term, high-intensity • active at start of all exercise

  3. Glycolytic (Lactic Acid) • Supplements energy supply from phosphagen system for high intensity exercise • fast: pyruvate  lactic acid + ATP • slow: pyruvate  mitochondria  oxidative system

  4. Oxidative (Aerobic) • Low intensity, long duration

  5. Energy Production Power Intensity • level of muscular activity that can be quantified in terms of power output • power at VO2max is  20-30% of peak power on cycle ergometer •  primarily aerobic exercise (even at 100% of VO2max) should not be classified as high-intensity exercise

  6. Energy Production Power

  7. What is the predominant energy system for these activities?

  8. What is the predominant energy system for these activities? Running • 100 m • 200 m • 400 m • 800 m • 1500 m

  9. What is the predominant energy system for these activities? Swimming • 50 m • 100 m • 200 m • 800 m

  10. What is the predominant energy system for these activities? Field events • long jump • high jump • shot-put • discus

  11. What is the predominant energy system for these activities? Cycling • Time-trial • Road-race

  12. What is the predominant energy system for these activities? Team sports • Basketball • Volleyball • Soccer

  13. What is the predominant energy system for these activities? Team sports • Basketball • Volleyball • Soccer
