  1. Open House 4th Grade 2011-2012

  2. Volunteering in the Classroom • All LCS applications through this past Friday. I have also sent emails to everyone who has been cleared through LCS and PTO Manager letting them know that they are READY to volunteer. I have a LOT of LCS forms that don't have a PTO Manager account. Please remind your parents that they MUST have both in order to be cleared to volunteer. I will be at school this week helping volunteers with the sign in process and anyone who needs help with PTO Manager. I have had several emails from parents saying that they have taken things home and want to know how they can get credit for those hours. These hours can be counted in "off-site" hours. If you have parents that have been doing work at home, PLEASE encourage them to log on to PTO Manager and log them as "off-site" hours, so BLE can get credit for those hours. • If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

  3. Blue FERPA Forms • These forms state that you do not wish your child to be photographed for any reason. • This means that their picture will not be in the yearbook or in any class pictures. • I will give these blue forms back to you and if you wish for your child not to be photographed, I will keep a copy on file and send one to the office. • New form on the table.

You should have 10 sentences. Due Thursday. Math p. 7 and 8 Thursday Writing- Write your words two times each and study for the test. Due on Friday. Math p. 6 Plus, each night students must read for at least 20 minutes. Two Accelerated Reader books are due and the first test must be taken and passed by the 15th of September. Passing is 70% or better. Please check my website for further information on the Accelerated Reader program. Special Area Schedule: Tuesday Media Wednesday- PE Thursday- Art Friday- Music

  5. AR Reader • • Each month, students must read a minimum of 2 AR books. These books must be on either third, fourth or fifth grade level. (3.0-5.9) • I encourage the lower level books for the beginning of the year, and then after Christmas students can move onto a higher level. • This is a portion of the students reading grade and is required. • Each month, we will focus on fiction OR non-fiction books. • Consequences  If the minimum goal is not met, students lose developmental play time until that goal is met.  o For example, if a student has not taken an AR test in the last two weeks, starting the following Monday they should come in ready to take a test or they read during developmental play time until they are ready to take and pass a test. Rewards We will create monthly rewards for completing the assignment and exceding expectations. How does my child get an AR book?  Simple!  Fourth graders are allowed to check out four media center books.  I highly recommend that they check out TWO AR books at all times.  They can also check out AR books from our classroom library. Of course, the public library is also a great resource for additional books.  • When/where do students have the opportunity to take tests?  Students may take tests in our classrooms in the afternoons from 2:30 to 2:45, during their media time, and if time allows, during reading workshop. • Where can I find a list of AR books?  You can find a link at Buck Lake’s website for all of the books currently available.  There is also a hard copy located in our Media Center.

  6. Monthly Projects • Each month the students will do a reading project. The one for this month is a book report and they will need to take a piece of poster board, cut out a circle for their face, and draw the details from the book as a background.

  8. Field Trips • This year we can take only a small number of parents on field trips. I have put a sign up sheet on the table for you to sign up for the field trips you would like to attend. • Museum of Florida History- Sept. 27 • Challenger Learning Center- December • Mission San Luis- March 7th • St. Augustine- April 25th

  9. Fourth Grade Field Trips New Regulations ALL chaperones must ride on the bus. No meeting us there. No driving your own car. We must have your volunteer form filled out NOW!! You can not decide to come the week before a trip!

  10. Successmaker • SuccessMaker Reading reinforces concepts and skills to address a variety of instructional needs within the five major components of reading for K-8 students. The mathematics course enables teachers to give one-to-one support to a wide spectrum of K-8 students who have difficulty with grade-level math concepts. Behind it all, the powerful Learning Management System provides on-demand reports for quickly assessing progress by classroom or student.  

  11. FCAT TESTING DATES • February 28 FCAT Writing (Grades 4, 8 and 10) • April 16-27 FCAT SSS Reading & Math Retakes (Grades 11-Adult) • 16-27 FCAT SSS Reading & Math (Grades 3-10) • 16-27 FCAT SSS Science (Grades 5, 8, and 11)

  12. Class supplies • All students must have scissors, crayons, glue sticks, pencils, and color pencils for school each day. Some students do not have these supplies and it makes things complicated when your child is not prepared!

  13. How to be prepared for a great year! • Plenty of sleep • Completed homework • Good breakfast • Snack for after special area • Tennis shoes for PE days • Practice multiplication facts at home • Read a lot • Wear the right clothes for the weather

  14. T-Shirt order form • On the table you will find your t-shirt order forms. The cost of the t-shirt $9.00 and please send it in ASAP.

  15. Sign up for conferences • There is a big calendar on the table for you to use to sign up for conferences. My times are limited due to my daughter’s activities and volleyball games at Swift Creek. • Grab a sticky note to jot down your time.

  21. Tropicana Speech Contest • Speeches are written by all students and presented in their homeroom class. • One winner from each class will participate in the school contest. • The school contest winner will participate in the district contest.
