November 2012 Overview • 11ah focuses on power saving and frame overhead reduction • NDP type control frames have been proposed in 11ah [1] • NDP PS-Poll, NDP Probe Request, Short ACK, Short Block ACK and Short CTS • A new Restricted Access Window (RAW) based channel access procedure has been proposed [1] • STAs covered by the AID segment in the TIM are allowed to access channel within RAW • RAWs are aimed at facilitating channel access for a group of STAs • E.g., RAW1: polling period, RAW2, 3: data delivery period • NDP type control frames are suitable in RAWs • In this contribution, we propose to introduce an uplink data indication (UDI) signaling field in NDP PS-Poll frames to assist the APs in scheduling uplink channel access Sayantan Choudhury, Nokia

November 2012 NDP UDI Signaling Options • NDP PS-Poll proposed by Huawei [2] • Modify NDP PS-Poll by adding uplink data indication (UDI) field in SIG • For bandwidth =1MHz, use 1 bit uplink data indication • For bandwidth >= 2MHz , can use larger number of reserved bits (<= 8 bits out of 12 bits) in SIG to indicate quantity of UL data • NDP Trigger frame • Define NDP Trigger frame with UDI • Quantity of uplink data (<= 8 bits) • Using NDP PS-Poll is a better option since we can re-use existing frames Sayantan Choudhury, Nokia
