  3. WHAT ARE SLAVES TREATED LIKE? • Slaves were first captured back in Africa. • By other tribes in trade for pots, pans and cutlery. • When captured they would be checked for disease before loaded aboard ships. • These ships were full of diseases. • Once reaching America they would be separated from families and most likely to never see them again. • Then the slaves would be sold one by one in the auction for ALOTof money.

  4. THE SLAVE TRIANGLE? The slave triangle was the simple passage that the British, the Americans and the Africans took. It starts of with the British travelling to Africa to capture the slaves. The middle passage was the way that they brought the slaves over to America amongst the items given in return. Finally the homeward passage was where they brought over to Britain items collected in America such as: Tobacco, rum, rice and cotton.

  5. PUNISHMENTS? Most of the time, slaves that misbehaved would be whipped. Some slaves would be placed in a smoke house filled with hot tobacco to gas them. Also they Could be pushed down steep hills, forcefully submerged, kicked, tied up in hot rope, tarred and feathered, chased by dogs, hit by paddles and/or have pieces of your body cut off e.g. ears. 

  6. WHY WERE THE SLAVES PUNISHED? • The slaves were punished due to the fact they might of tried to escape, fight back against orders from their owners or when they got beaten they would run away.

  7. FOOD AND DRINK? • Food was plentiful although not always of good quality. A daily ration might include things such as: • Yam, Biscuit, Rice, Beans and occasionally Meat but this could be shared between ten people. • Water was given daily and some slave owners gave a generous amount of water to share. Some even gave out up to 34,000 gallons.
