  1. How to do aWindowReading Response Please copy the following directions into the Reading Response section of your English Notebook

  2. What Is It? • A Window reading response allows you to see the literary aspects of a story or essay by focusing on key stylistic citations (quotes) and analyzing their significance in the context of what you’ve read. • These citations are framed around four important images from what you’ve read, allowing us to see what they mean, as if looking through a window at an image.

  3. What It Is • For the assigned reading, choose three significant literary citations (quotes) that clearly represent: • The Theme • The Narrative Style • Your Favorite Passage • Each citation must be at least two sentences long • Next, in at least three sentences, analyze how the three citations provide insight into what you’ve read

  4. How to do It • Place one quote at the top • Place one quote on the left side • Place one quote on the right side • Place your analysis at the bottom Be Sure to Label Each Citation!

  5. Add Images • In the center of the frame, draw, cut out, or download pictures that clearly represent the three passages cited (quoted) • In a phrase or sentence, state how the picture is a metaphor or symbol for the theme of the story or essay

  6. Guidelines • Must be Colorful • No Lined Paper • Images must relate to the citations and analysis • No pencil (unless colored) • Citations must include correct parenthetical citation format and punctuation

Four Citations Theme Narrative Style Favorite Quote Analysis Four MLA, Parenthetical Formatting Four Citation Headings Theme Narrative Style Favorite Quote Analysis Four Images Four Metaphorical or Symbolic Headings Grading Criteria Every Item Is Worth Five Points Write a two sentence explanation of what you did well and what you need to do to improve according to the standards of comprehension, analysis, and evaluation for what you read.
