  3. WORLDVIEWS • A set of basic beliefs that are assumed to be true without proof by which you interpret and do life. Your basic beliefs determine how you live. • The Christian worldview: Human beings and the universe in which they reside are the creation of the One Holy Triune God who has revealed Himself universally in nature and specifically through Jesus Christ and Scripture

Creator – creation Distinction For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.  And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. STAGES OF RESPONSE TO GOD’S REVELATION • Pagan: Rejection • Conversion: Regenerated by the Holy Spirit and agrees with the Scriptures, but lives inconsistently. • Sanctification: Progressively changed and conformed to the image of Christ revealed in the Scriptures by the Holy Spirit. • Glorification: when in the physical presence of Christ made perfect by the Holy Spirit

THE CHRISTIAN’S RESPONSE TO GOD’S REVELATION • All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 • Doesn’t defend their inconsistencies • Doesn’t rationalize their inconsistencies • Doesn’t hide their inconsistencies • Doesn’t self-condemn their inconsistencies • Wants their inconsistencies revealed • Confesses, has godly sorrow and changes

  7. PROVERBS 28:1ANXIOUS OR CONFIDENT? • The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. • What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:31-32; 38-39

STABILTY • When a land transgresses, it has many rulers, but with a man of understanding and knowledge, its stability will long continue. • The chaos of a sinful nation vs. the stability of one led by a righteous leader • People generally get the government they deserve. • Northern Israel vs. Southern Judah

  9. PROVERBS 28:3, 15CRUEL AUTHORITY • A poor man who oppresses the poor is a beating rain that leaves no food. Like a roaring lion or a charging bear is a wicked ruler over a poor people. • And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42-45 • How do you lead?

  10. PROVERBS 28:12, 28THE PEOPLE’S RESPONSE • When the righteous triumph, there is great glory, but when the wicked rise, people hide themselves. When the wicked rise, people hide themselves, but when they perish, the righteous increase. • In general righteous leaders are appreciated and the wicked avoided. • How do others respond to your leadership?

  11. PROVERBS 28:21, 16TRUSTWORTHY? • To show partiality is not good, but for a piece of bread a man will do wrong. A ruler who lacks understanding is a cruel oppressor, but he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days. • How do you decide what is right or wrong? • How important is integrity, honesty, morality, consistency in every situation?

  12. PROVERBS 28:4, 7, 9GOD’S LAW – YOUR RESPONSE? • Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive against them. The one who keeps the law is a son with understanding, but a companion of gluttons shames his father. If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination. • Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word…Whoever does not love me does not keep my words…John 14:23-24 • For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1Peter 3:12

  13. PROVERBS 28:5RELATIVISM VS. ABSOLUTES • Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand it completely. • God reveals universal moral absolutes. Do you understand them? • Unbelievers proclaim relative morals then complain about “unfairness” to themselves. • For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

  14. PROVERBS 28:6, 11YOUR RESPONSE TO WEALTH? • Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways. A rich man is wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who has understanding will find him out. • “It makes no difference if you’re right or wrong: When you're rich they think you really know.” Fiddler on the roof • Wealth breeds pride and conceals immorality. • But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29

  15. PROVERBS 28:8,20,22,25,27GREEDY? • Whoever multiplies his wealth by interest and profit gathers it for him who is generous to the poor. A faithful man will abound with blessings, but whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished. A stingy man hastens after wealth and does not know that poverty will come upon him. A greedy man stirs up strife, but the one who trusts in the LORD will be enriched. Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.

GREEDY OR TRUST IN THE LORD? • Greedy: self-centered, never satisfied, insensitive to others needs, stirs up strife, will be punished. • Trusts in the Lord: generous, faithful, blessed, enriched. • Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 1 Timothy 6:6-10

  17. PROVERBS 28:13THE GOSPEL! BORN AGAIN? • Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. • Godly grief, confession, repentance, trust, mercy! • For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. 2 Corinthians 7:10 • If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John1:8,9

  18. PROVERBS 28:14,18,26REALLY, WHO IS YOUR AUTHORITY? • Blessed is the one who fears the LORD always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity. Whoever walks in integrity will be delivered, but he who is crooked in his ways will suddenly fall. Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered. • What do you submit to: your feelings, wants, family, culture, career or The Triune God and His Word? • “You shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3 Do you?

PROVERBS 28:23YOUR RESPONSE TO REBUKE? • Whoever rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than he who flatters with his tongue. • Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. 2 Peter 1:12-15 • Favor the rebuke that God uses to sanctify you?
