  19. INDUSTRY REQUIRMENT TECHNOLOGY STAND POINT Fuel Economy The recent new car sales in the US has indicated the value of miles per gallon (MPG) of vehicle has increased to 22.2mpg from 21.7 mpg. According to TrueCar.com, the average MPG for vehicles sold by US manufacturers is at 20.6mpg in 2011, an increased from 20.1 mpg in 2010. Globally, the trend of vehicle manufacturers is towards Energy Efficient Vehicle which merely consist the performance of vehicle in terms of fuel efficiency and CO2 emission. Diesel Hybrid Mercedes-Benz will be introducing its new E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid later this year. It is claimed for the model to achieve 4.2 litre per 100km (67mpg NEDC) with its new 4-cylinder diesel engine which is capable to produce 204bhp and 500Nm of torque. www.mai.org.my

  33. CONCLUSION • The automotive industry is considered the single largest manufacturing sector in the world. And it shares the manufacturing value added , employment and export of that country. Such huge backward and forward inter-linkages justified that the automotive industry is the backbone of the economy. • Currently, technology trends is the development of technology towards the energy efficient vehicle which promoting the usage of efficient fuel and also the alternative fuel which towards the zero emission. • In order to enhance the competitiveness of Malaysia automotive industry, Malaysia is leading to be regional hub for Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEV) with high technology uptake among industry players for domestic and regional & international exports. • Skilled workforces are critically required for both manufacturing and after sales sectors currently to support the entire automotive industry ecosystem. Current and future human capital development programmes are created to support the capability of current automotive players and for the future technology development.
