  2. Conglomerate - Clastic -rounded gravel sized particles -pieces have been lithified

  3. Breccia - Clastic -angular pieces lithified together

  4. Banded Sandstone – Clastic -sand sized pieces lithified together

  5. Arkose – clastic -high content of feldspar -pieces of many different rock lithified together

  6. Quartz Sandstone – Clastic -will not effervesce with HCL -light in color (Quartz composition)

  7. Shale – Clastic -has undergone compaction -was once mud -may contain oil or natural gas

  8. Clay – Clastic -microscopic particle size -non porous -super fine particles have been lithified

  9. Crystalline Limestone – Chemical Biological -will react with HCl (contains CaCo3) -forms inshallow, calm, warm marine waters

  10. Travertine – Chemical Biological -will react with HCl -is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs

  11. Coquina – Chemical/Biological -will react with HCl -Coquina forms near the shore when shells, mineral calcite, and sometimes phosphate settle on the bottom of the ocean

  12. Chalk – Biological/Chemical -reacts with HCl -It forms in deep marine conditions in oceans

  13. Tufa – Chemical/Biological -reacts with HCl -type of limestone which forms in close proximity to bodies of water with a high content of dissolved minerals

  14. Bituminous Coal – Chemical -Coal forms from the accumulation of plant debris, usually in a swamp environment

  15. Fossiliferous limestone – Chemical/Biological -will react with HCl -formed in a marine environment
