  1. Design Concept Daryl Harkin – Basketball Shoe

  2. Project Plan

  3. Project Progress - Problem Identification • Injuries • Ankle Joint • Anterior Inferior Tibiofibular Ligament • Achilles Tendon • Comfort/ Support • Weight Distribution • Gait – Phases • Foot Arch

  4. Ankle Joint • Uniaxial Hinge, • No appreciable lateral movement can occur, • Dynamic rotation • Knee bent • Knee straight

  5. Anterior Inferior Tibiofibular Ligament • Most ankle fractures are associated with ligament injuries. • Most common injured ligament • Caused by Pronation (Rolling ankle)

  6. Achilles Tendon • Energy Transfer • Storage and release • Transfer to limbs through muscles • Overheating • Most important tendon in leg. • Capable of stretching • Heel hits Achilles must counter act this action by stretching

  7. Weight Distribution • 1/3 of all weight taken by first metatarsal • Heel, Ball and outer foot most affected by propulsion. • Runners – 80% Heel strike, 20% mid- foot strike.

  8. Gait - Phases • Propulsion • Swing and Stance • Double Support Phase • Jogging, Running

  9. Foot Arch • Make up – Tarsal and Metatarsal Bones. • Stability comes from ligaments (plantar fascia) • Prevents weight being transferred from tibia to ground. • Can flatten to 10mm from ground.

  10. Project Progress - Market Rationale/ Target Group • Area of high interest and demand. • Proven market. • Tallest Male/ Female Professional to Smallest Male/ Female Amateur. • Potential aim at different position needs.
