  1. Mrs. Kistler’s Computer Lab Welcome Students!

  2. Welcome to Mahoning’s Computer Lab! • Computers are the way of the future and we are hoping though weekly classes that your child will feel comfortable using computers. • They just might teach you a few things. • The students will learn how to use the computer safely and to the fullest.

  3. Rules for the computer room • Come in and leave and a mannerly fashion. • Keep to your own space. • Raise your hand if you need help. • Have respect for our new computers. • No picking at the rest pads. • Microphones are disabled. • Noise level - whisper!

  4. Printing Rules • When your computer ask you if you want to print your work you must click NO. • Only when I tell you - should you be printing. • If there is something special that you might want for your class work, please ask before printing.

  5. Goals • To make you feel very comfortable in using the computers. • To provide a supportive learning environment. • To have fun while we learn. • To make new friends and discover new interests.

  6. Class Content • Compass Odyssey is a brand new online software. I’m hoping all the students will enjoy using this program. • Second grade on up will be using the typing program “Bernie.” • We will learn the basics of the Microsoft programs.

  7. Microsoft Word • Compose. • Change font and color. • Insert pictures. • Check spelling and grammar. • Save your work.

  8. Power Point • Create a slide. • Learn text and picture inserts. • Transitions. • Save your Power Point.

  9. Excel • Briefly describe how to create a cell. • Place text.

  10. Compass Odyssey • This is a great program for all the grades. • The narrator tells you exactly what to do and follows you through each assignment. • Compass has the ability to grade the students and this is given to the teachers every marking period. (It is the teacher’s choice how to use these grades)

  11. Bernie This also is a great typing program for the elementary. When you complete a level, you get to play a game. But, before you play the game, you must pass that level typing test. The games are all keyboard related. We also use many of the Keyboarding links on our website.

  12. Last but not least,the Internet Between Mrs. Brownmiller, the Librarian, and myself, we will be teaching you good rules for searching the web. Material that is your grade level. I also will provide you with excellent web sites. There are a lot of great Educational Sites that you could use throughout the year.

  13. Those were all my goals • I only have you 60 minutes a week, so we will be busy in this room. • Mahoning is blessed with 12 laptops that the students will take turns using during computer time. • I love computers and I especially love children so, my job is a JOY!
