  1. The Biblical Conceptof Headship “But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God” (I Corinthians 11:3)

  2. The head directs the whole body (literal) The one who is over you or has authority over you; the one who has control (figurative) Leader, guide, director, boss, commander (figurative) Headship = Authority

  3. 4 Principles of Headship(I Corinthians 11:3-16) • Man is the image and glory of God, and woman the glory of man (I Cor. 11:7) • Woman is from man and created for man (8,9) • All things are from God (10-12) • Nature teaches the difference between man and woman (13-15)

  4. Apply to 2 Areas of Life • Husband and wife relationship (Eph. 5:22,24; Col. 3:18; I Pet. 3:1) • In the church – worship assemblies and other spiritual activities (I Cor. 11:5; 14:34,35; I Tim. 2:11,12)

  5. Results from ObeyingGod’s Teaching on Headship • Honor the headship of God and Jesus • We are honoring headship among men when we obey God’s will • Church taught in peace and agreement with fellow saints • We may follow traditions and customs as long as they do not conflict with God’s word.

  6. Headship of Jesus • Jesus is head of the body which is His church (Eph. 1:22,23) • The Father gave all authority in heaven and on earth to Jesus (Matthew 28:18)

  7. Headship of God the Father • Our God and Father has authority over everything even Jesus (I Cor. 11:3; 15:27,28) • One God and Father of all, who is above all, through all, and in you all (Eph. 4:6)
