  1. The Albion Foundation Inspire to Achieve

  2. The Albion Foundation • Registered charity that works in partnership with West Bromwich Albion Football Club • Use the medium of football and the kudos of WBA FC to make a real difference in the local community • Formed in 1992 and became a registered charity in 2000 – now has a staff team of 43 full time, 57 part time, 46 volunteers working with 8183 participants per week • Our motto is ‘Inspire to Achieve’ • We aim to add value and develop and maintain strong strategic partnerships in Sandwell, Birmingham, Dudley and Worcestershire • 3 key focus areas of work – REACH / MAKING A DIFFERENCE / RAISING ASPIRATIONS

  3. Education and Inclusion Focus • Attendance – Triple A Five partner schools – increase in attendance at each Also engages and supports those NOR • Attainment and Achievement – Inspire Ten partner schools – working with Looked After Children and providing alternative, complimentary intervention and support • Alternative Provision – Time-Out • Engaged 80 young people at risk of exclusion referred from 20 different schools, academies or Local Authorities • Positive activities – Kickz and Kickz Plus • Free activities that engage young people outside of school time

  4. Free School -The Vision Alternative provision for Key Stage 1 to 4 pupils that need some ‘time-out’ from mainstreamCommissioned by schools, academies and Local Authorities – a partnership modelFlexible, rapid response that is high quality and young people centred

  5. Free School -The Ethos Utilise the brand name ‘WBA FC’Individual programmes of study through a broad and balanced curriculum in partnership with Krunch and ImpactMentoringEnrichmentSupport and guidance with focus on safeguardingQuality partnerships, staffing and facilities

  6. Free Schools - Club Commitment • The Football Club has a long standing tradition as a “community club” with strong ethics and principles. • The club would provide facilities and lease land to house the school in a re-furbished building and new build, whilst seeking further private investment through the brand. • The club would offer their brand to this concept • The school would be developed around the West Stand of the stadium and land opposite this stand and the current Foundation Building site

  7. Free Schools - Partner Commitment • Very positive feedback so far from a range of schools, academies and Local Authority • We can’t, and have no desire, to do this alone • We need advice and input; particularly at Key Stage 1 and 2 • Financially each pupil place would be ‘topped up’ directly by commissioners

  8. Free Schools – What next? • First deadline – December 2012 for a September 2014 opening • Open invite to you and your staff to find out more on Wednesday 7th November between 3pm and 6pm at The Albion Foundation School, Brasshouse Lane, Smethwick • Already convinced?
