  1. EQ: What are Stereotypes and Prejudice? 4/22 Bell Ringer: Write your own definition for stereotype. How are people stereotyped at Kenwood? What are the different “groups” at Kenwood? What words (adjectives) would you use to describe each group?

Racial Stereotypes • Brainstorm 4-5 racial/ethnic groups that are often stereotyped • Hang a paper with each group on the front board • In groups think of adjectives/stereotypes for each group (stereotypes can be positive or negative). These don’t need to be things you believe but things you have heard. • Write words on sticky notes and put on papers in front

  3. Discussion • What do you notice about the stereotypes listed? • Do stereotypes apply to everyone in a group? Do they tell us anything definite about an individual? • Where have you seen these stereotypes portrayed? • How do you think stereotypes might cause someone to act unfairly toward another person?

  4. Stereotypes and Prejudice Worksheet • Read definitions and complete writing assignment • HW due Friday: 3 pictures of vocab words from this unit- take a photo,photo, find a photo/picture (magazine, newspaper-NOT INTERNET), or draw a picture which exemplifies stereotypes, prejudice, racism, discrimination, bias, obedience, conformity, bystander effect, etc. • Identifying stereotypes in the media
