  1. Discrimination in the Time of War A Then an Now project by Amrit and Rj.

  2. Pearl Harbor • The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. • The U.S. declared war on Japan and rounded up JapaneseAmericans, putting them in internment camps.

  3. Camps • 110,000 Japanese Americans were put into internment camps because many Americans thought they were spies for Japan. However, no Japanese Americans spied for Japan.

  4. Life in Camps • Life was difficult in camps. Japanese Americans lost their rights and had no freedom.

  5. Twin Towers • Al Qaeda attacked the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

  6. Discrimination • Sikh Americans became targets of discrimination in the US because of their turbans and the way they looked. No Sikhs were in Al Qaeda or involved in the 9/11 attacks.

  7. Racism • Sikh homes were vandalized, temples were burned and some Sikhs lost their jobs.

  8. Lesson • In times of war, as in time of peace, people should not be judged by how they look.
