  3. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerWhat is it • Network management application added to HP OpenView to allow configuration and management of a large group of AP systems • Contains functionality of ORiNOCO AP Manager + enhanced functions • network map • multiple AP management

  4. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerWhat is it • Add-on to HP OpenView and running on • Unix version • NT version • Future: platform independent version WM/Pro • web browser based • Sun Solaris version in development

  5. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerWhat is it • Basic windows, maps & submaps provided by HP OpenView • Other UI components provided using Tcl/Tk • Maps have look-and-feel of standard HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) • Map = set of related objects and submaps providing graphical and hierarchical presentation of the network and its subsystems

  6. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerNNM Submaps • Sub-map displays logical partitioning of networks and gateways into connected symbols • Sub-map represents physical topology network • network segments • gateways (routers) • (multi-port) repeaters (hubs) • bridges (incl. AP-500/AP-1000 systems) • APs shown with AP icon • Panner zooms in on different area submap

  7. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerInstallation - prerequisites • The ORiNOCO PRO Manager can operate on any portable or desktop computer that at minimum meets the following: • Pentium or higher processor • At least 5 MB free space on the hard-disk • 64 MB of RAM • Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0 • HP OpenView Network Node Manager version 5.02 (or later) for Windows NT Workstation 4.0 • Tcl/Tk version 8.04 or later for Windows NT Workstation 4.0 • ORiNOCO PRO Manager software • installed NIC to access the LAN (Wired, wireless, dial-up) • Loaded TCP/IP protocol stack

  8. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerInstallation (NT4) 1. Assure that the HP OpenView NNM does not run (stop it if needed) 2. Insert the ORiNOCO PRO Manager CD-ROM in its drive 3. Locate the “setup.exe” program on the CD-Rom and execute it 4. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen Any previously installed versions of the program will be overwritten

During the installation the user is requested to specify the directory for the ORiNOCO PRO Manager files (default C:\Program Files\ORiNOCO\PRO Manager) 2. Select the “System” Icon on the “Control Panel”, and click the “Environment” tab 3. On the “Systems Variables” list select “Path” 4. In the corresponding “Value” field add the following line: <Drive>:\<Tcl/Tk path>\bin; <Drive>:\<ORiNOCO PRO Manager path>\bin where: <Tcl/Tk path>, is path where Tcl/Tk is installed <ORiNOCO PRO Manager path>, is the path where PRO Manager is installed

  10. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerInstallation - Updating the “oid_to_sym” file 1. To allow HP OpenView to recognize the AP-500 or AP-1000, the AP Object Identifier has to be added to the appropriate file 2. Open the “oid_to_sym” file in the “\conf” subdirectory of the folder where HP OpenView has been installed 3. Add to this file the line: 1.3.6.1.4.1.762.2:Connector:WavePOINT-II # Lucent WavePOINT-II Bridge 4. Restart HP OpenView NNM service 5. Register the fields related to the ORiNOCO PRO Manager by typing at the prompt: ovw -fields

  11. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerInstallation (UNIX) 1. Log on to the UNIX workstation as “root” 2. Create a directory for the ORiNOCO PRO Manager files 3. Copy the files “INSTALL” and “WaveMANAGER.tar.z” from the CD-ROM to the directory just created 4. Run the “INSTALL” script

  12. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerStarting the program • Start HP OpenView • Open the HP OpenView Network Node Manager • An menu item has been added to the menu bar on the top labeled WaveMANAGER/PRO • Clicking this menu show the item “Show WavePOINTs” • Clicking this item opens a window with selected APs

  13. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerShowing APs • APs can be displayed by IP address or by name. • Pointing to the “Screen” menu and selecting “WavePOINT-II label”, allows a selecting between: • IP-Address • System Name • The System name is the name stored in the SNMP parameters of the AP

  14. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerSelecting AP devices • Modifying or viewing parameters of a device requires the device to be selected • Click the AP icon to select it (Icon gets surrounded with gray rectangle) • Selecting multiple APs: • Click the Icons, with CTRL key depressed • Drag a rectangle around them

  15. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerHighlighting AP devices (versus selecting) • HP OpenView highlights devices based on set criteria (e.g. part of a given subnet) • ORiNOCO PRO Manager can highlight devices by specifying their IP address • To modify and access highlighted devices, they need to be selected: “Highlight” … “Select Highlighted”

  16. ORiNOCO PRO Manager Multiple AP update • Load new software functionality to multiple AP devices in one go • Load common parameters to multiple AP devices in one go: • Access Control Table • WEP key • Network Name • Bridging setting • Can be executed immediately or scheduled for a later time

  17. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerChanging common AP parameters • Updating the parameters for the RADIUS Access Control function: • IP Address of the primary and secondary RADIUS server • Password used during the authentication

  18. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerChanging common AP parameters • Setting / changing: • Network Name • Medium reservation • DTIM period • Multi-cast rate • Distance between APs

  19. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerChanging common AP parameters • Setting / changing: • Protocol filters • Storm thresholds • Static filter tables

  20. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerChanging other AP parameters • IP address of the AP (if DHCP is not used)

  21. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerChanging other AP parameters • Changing / setting SNMP Parameters • Community passwords • System name of the AP • System contact name • Location of the AP • IP address of the trap host • Password used by the trap host

  22. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerMonitoring the statistics • Large variety of monitoring capabilities, similar to ORiNOCO AP Manager • Accessed by “Monitor” menu item. Eg.: • SNMP Statistics View user manual for details

  23. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerDiagnostics • Double clicking a selected AP pops up the “End-stations connected” window • All stations associated to the selected AP are shown in this window • Double clicking a connected station initiates a link test between the AP and the station

  24. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerRemote Link test • Remote link test operates a test between the AP and a connected station, showing SNR, Signal and Noise levels of the link

  25. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerRemote Link test (History) • History graphs, are produced for all the maintained elements showing the readings over time

  26. ORiNOCO PRO ManagerOnline help • On line help is available, following the standard look and feel used in Windows systems.
