(Mindes, 2003) • In developmentally appropriate practice, assessment processes are: • Continuous • Directed to all developmental areas • Sensitive to individual and cultural diversity

Link to philosophy Continued • Completely integrated with curriculum and instruction • Based on a defensible theory of child development. • Collaborative with all stakeholders • Helpful to teachers in their planning to meet the needs of children • Unequivocally in the best interest of children (Hills, 1992, p. 61) • All aspects of the curriculum are taken into account.(Project Zero)

Referral to special Services • Some children will need special services: speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, play therapy, and other special services to the child and to the family.
