  4. Empowering children and young people to build self-confidence, self-esteem and skills that enable them to have a voice.and to be heard.

  5. Changing the care system through advocacy, in consultation with children and young people, to improve policies, practices and services, and to increase community awareness.

  6. - Report Cards – • Report Cards – identify support of governments and perceptions of children and young people of services • last three Report Cards 2008, 2009 and 2011- focused transitioning from care • Young people consistently reported lack of support and readiness for adulthood

  7. Most families continue to support their children when they turn 18 years of age. They provide them with ongoing accommodation, (often till 21 or even 25 years of age) money, food, clothing, health care, assistance with the cost of education or employment training, and emotional support. (Mendes, 2008)

  8. Care leavers are expected to undertake the journey to adulthood, from restricted to full citizenship, far younger and in far less time than their peers……their journey from adolescence to adulthood is both accelerated and compressed. (Stein, 2008)

CREATE Your Future to me! • Aims • Improve potential life outcomes for children • and young people in care • Empower young people to feel equipped to • transition from care • Highlight the issue of transitioning from care • to carers so they can support young people • with life skills development

CREATE Your Future to me! • Over 8 weeks, participants aged 15-24 in care or who have a care background obtain resources and learn practical skills to help them live independently. • Modules cover: • Health and wellbeing • Housing • Life skills • Job readiness • Education and training • Financial literacy • Transport

  16. It’s not all fun, it’s also education and life skills. This program helps you get to be more responsible and become an adult. I didn’t know I could get TILA. I knew very little of this stuff before the workshop. I can break problems down into chunks through hip hop
