  1. 5 Signs that Your Loved One Needs Dementia Home care

  2. It is not easy to accept the fact that of a loved one is suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia and caring for them can create a lot of stress for you. It is even confusing to decide whether to give care on your own or should you be getting help for him/her. However, there are 5 clear signs to get home care for a family member suffering from Dementia.

  3. 1. Observations of Family and Friends Ask family and friends if they have noticed any unusual changes in the behavior patterns of your elderly relative. They may have noticed some change in their speech, or obvious thinking ability. Forgetfulness, uncertainty and confusion, repetition are regular signs.

  4. 2. Mood Swings and Lack of Interest in Social Activities Old people with dementia are often isolated because of their mood swings, together with depression and anxiety. If a parent or relative has lost his/her appetite, has disturbed sleep, is highly nervous, and there is a decrease in interests and hobbies, it may indicate a decline in mental health. Often times, a person is emotionally disturbed due to unclear thoughts and the inability to understand what they are doing. If a senior needs constant help or is in a continual state of emotional suffering, daily support from professionals can prove to be extremely helpful.

  5. 3. Noticeable Decline in Personal Care and Other Matters You may notice that there is a general disorder in your loved one’s home. There may be spoiled food, lots of clutter, and mail piled in the mailbox. Another major issue that may arise is that he/she may forget to take their medication as per schedule. Not bathing regularly, poor diet or weight loss, and uncertainty and confusion when performing once-familiar tasks are clear signs that he/she needs expert home care.

  6. 4. Difficulty in Managing Finances and Appointments  Is your elderly family member missing important appointments? Do they forget anniversaries, or family events? Are there notices for late payments, bounced checks and calls from bill collectors? Have they lost track of the month or year? These can be indications that your beloved senior is unable to manage on his own and requires constant supervision.

  7. 5. Disconnected Thoughts and Repetition The most disturbing aspects of dementia are disconnected thoughts and repetition of conversation. In many patients with dementia, family members observe that they make silly statements, focusing on irrelevant details, or they cannot consciously remember or recognize things that may seem obvious to others. When a person dear to you faces difficulty in communication has difficulty to learn and remember and their overall thought process is disturbed, everyone suffers. Professional help and home care can bring family members and the dementia patients closer to each other.
