  17. When a Manager Says: • I MUST have a list of all software installed on all PCs • Just Say No! • I need this report to have 50 columns • Just Say No!

  18. All Software for All PCs • Assuming 80 lines of text / page • Each page is double sided • There are 500 sheets of paper in a bundle of paper! (((# of PCs) * (average # of rows within ARP)) / 80 lines ) / 2 (double sided) = total number of pages for the report.

  20. When Management Asks for a RIDICULOUS Report (and they will!): • Ask them why they need it? • Who will read it? • How is it going to be used? • What EXACTLY do they need each column? • How often is this report likely to be used? • What decision will be make with the data?

  21. Things to Consider When Creating a Report • Will all columns of data fit on one page? • Does it contain data that will cause duplicate rows? • IP Address • Hard Drives • CPU • Does it have too many Columns? • Is this a one off Report? • Is the report “doable” • You are the Technical Expert!
