Yom Kippur. 5771 2010. We sing Mah Tovu to consecrate this space as sacred. It is a recognition that as long as we are a community, any place can be a place for prayer. It is a reminder that even if we are outside of temple, we can still pray and think about what makes us Jewish.

  2. We sing MahTovu to consecrate this space as sacred. It is a recognition that as long as we are a community, any place can be a place for prayer. It is a reminder that even if we are outside of temple, we can still pray and think about what makes us Jewish. Hanna Katz MahTovu

  4. The strength of song is powerful beyond measure. Many of us have experienced camp settings where music, religious or not, has aided us in foraging all kind of connections. This is because of the soul of the song. Just like song, the strength of our soul is powerful beyond measure. So let us continue, by singing KolhaN’shamah with all of our soul.   11. In the Shema most people know that the prayer is saying listen, there is only one god and that is it, but a lot of people don’t know the hidden meaning in the blessing. In the Shema the last letter of the first word ends in an ayen, the last letter of the last word ends in a dalet. In the torah both of those letters are enlarged in order to give us a hint. Put together the ayen and dalet create the word ayd which means "witness" each time we say the Shema its like we are standing as witnesses proving gods oneness. The v'ahavta is a call to action. We are supposed to not only learn about God’s mitzvot but also to live them and pass them on to the future generations. Zoe Weiner Sh’ma – V’ahavta

  14. We are free. What more could we possibly ask for? We can decide our own futures, make our own decisions, and accomplish whatever we set our minds to. We can make a difference in the world. God of Abraham, God of Isaac and God of Jacob, God of Sarah, God of Rebekah, God of Leah and God of Rachel – each of them prayed to You and praised You. You have always loved and protected us.   18. O God, as we remember all You do, we make this promise: to be like You. We will raise up those who fall, heal those who are sick, free those who are in need. As Your partners, we will support the poor, feed the hungry, house the homeless, befriend the lonely and give hope to all people. We will be faithful Jews. Whose mercy is like Yours, God? You protect us. You give us our lives in mercy. On Rosh Hashanah God’s judgment is written and on Yom Kippur it is sealed. But repentance, prayer and charity can change this judgment.   20. Find favor, Adonai, our God, with Your people Israel and accept their prayer in love. May the worship of Your people Israel always be acceptable.   22. An open mind and an open heart start us with a clean plate. Anger, aggression, and deceitfulness splatters the plate with unhealthy juices. Sim Shalom is dish washer that cleanses the plates making them clean once again. Sim Shalom is the prayer for granting peace. However, the absolute granting of this prayer is not possible, so we pray the Mi Shebeirach prayer for those who are not blessed with this health.
