comments • I have often felt this way about nature and, especially, the moon. It is a huge source of peace for me and it always makes me feel so connected to the Goddess. If only we could go back to nature and live our lives fully in it, what a different people we would be. If only there were that silence on the earth of long ago.....I find myself so longing for these things, as I am a city dweller. One day I will go back to where we all belong. This I know. To the solitude and peace, to a place where I can really feel the earth breathing and see every star in the sky.

comments • Just goes to show that everything She touches does change • So no matter where a human creature might be in the world, or what cultural influences that creature might have passed through, the Moon still has the same universal appeal She always has had!

Structure of the Text • Part 1 (paras. 1—2 ) On the way to a friend’s house, I was awe-struck by the moonrise in Manila and mentioned the moon’s influence on my friend’s life. • Part 2 (paras. 3—4 ) During the visit to the northern India, the author witnessed the beautiful moon over mountains and the plain respectively. • Part 3 (para. 5) In the Philippines, the author watched the full moon over the sea.

Structure of the Text • Part 4 (paras. 6—7) The author viewed the whole nature and revealed the relationship between man and nature. • Part 5 (paras. 8—10) The author rethought the modern life and expressed the willingness to live close to nature.

Sentence Understanding: • …to make sure that he had not forgotten to take his torch with him when the moon would rise late or be at its newest. • We sat at the warmth and light of the sun, looking at the few houses spread out over a large area. • The changes of days and nights, months and seasons, or the changes of the weather are great forces which have long affected human lives.

We used to be awed by nature. It filled us with wonder. But now we have lost our sense of wonder. We can no longer enjoy that feeling because our lives are full of new things that are made by ourselves but not quite understood by ourselves. As a result, we are no longer what we should be. We have become different persons and are totally confused by these changes.

6. Today we talk about our lives in terms of glasses, concrete,etc. 7. The author is talking about polluted food and polluted air today as a result of the use of fertilizers, pesticides and other agricultural chemicals. Human beings cannot eat or breathe these things because they are not made that way. 8. The author is rethinking the meaning of all these products of modern science and technology for us human beings. Generally regarded as sign of progress and blessings to people, they have actually taken us further away from nature. The author feels confused if this is what we want.

9. Modern cities depend on energy to provide heat and drive machines, etc. but energy production produces pollutants. The author obviously does not like the fact that “energy flies around us”. 10. … and wear my trousers with bottoms rolled and spend the rest of my life drinking coffee and enjoying nature.
