  3. A software that: • stores and organizes references found from many sources • inserts these citations into a Word document, and • automatically format your references according to a predefined citation style What is NUS Medical / Science Library

Login to NUSNET on NUS campus Click on http://software.nus.edu.sg/catalogue/sc-setup.exe to install the Software Catalogue Client 1.2 In your PC, go to Start -- > All Programs  Software Catalogue  Click on Software Catalogue Client 1.2 A window opens, entitled Software Catalogue. On the left, under Software Category, click on Specialised Applications Click on EndNote X2 to install Step 1: Install EndNote X2 on PC/Laptop NUS Medical / Science Library

  8. Open EndNote X2. • Click on File  New... to create a new EndNote Library. • Enter a filename. • Click Save. Step 2 : Create an EndNote Library NUS Medical / Science Library

  9. Method 1: Search in databases and export citations (Web of Science) • Method 2: Search LINC directly in EndNote • Method 3 : Manually enter a Reference Step 3 : Collect References/Citations NUS Medical / Science Library

  10. Perform search in Web of Science as normal. • Mark references to be imported into EndNote X2. • Scroll to bottom of screen. At Step 3:, click on the button Save to EndNote, RefMan, ProCite. • EndNote program will automatically load. • The references are now saved into the EndNote library, under the group “Imported References”. Valid only for Free Databases • This Method good for Known Citations • In an EndNote Library, under Online Search on the left, click on more… • Under Name, look for and highlight Natl U of Singapore. Click Choose. Perform a search. • Retrieved records from 1 through XX. Useful for working papers / manuscripts which are not found in databases • In an EndNote Library, at the top, click on ReferencesNew Reference • Under Reference Type:, click on the drop-down menu and select accordingly (eg. Remove Duplicates • In an EndNote Library, click References on the menu bar Find Duplicates • Organise References into Groups (or folders) • Highlight a reference in EndNote Library • Right – Click Add References To  Create Custom Group… • Type a group name. Enter. • Compress a Library and Email to Colleague • Direct Links to Web of Science via Library Proxy Other Features NUS Medical / Science Library

In an EndNote X2 library, highlight a reference. • In Microsoft Word, place cursor at insertion point. • Look for the EndNote toolbar • For Word 2003, click on 4th button Insert Selected Citation(s) • For Word 2007, click on the button Insert Citation. ClickInsert Selected Citation(s). • The reference is inserted. Step 4: Cite References in Word (Cite While You Write) NUS Medical / Science Library

In Microsoft Word, look for the EndNote toolbar • For Word 2003 & below, click on the 3rd button Format Bibliography. • For Word 2007, go to Style:  Select another style • Under With output style, click Browse... • Select the desired journal style. Customize Citations • Edit Citation(s) • Use this command to make any changes inside a citation, such as adding page numbers or removing author names from author-date citations. • Edit Library • Reference(s) • This command allows • you to quickly access • the specific record for • any selected citation.   19. Additional CWYW Features • Insert Note • Use this command to insert explanatory notes to be numbered as though they were bibliography entries, and then placed in the bibliography. Other CWYW Features NUS Medical / Science Library

Additional CWYW Features • Unformat Citation(s) • This command will remove the formatted bibliography and citations and replace all citations with plain-text placeholders that EndNote can match to library records to create formatted citations. This command is commonly used when moving documents between word-processing programs. Other CWYW Features NUS Medical / Science Library

Additional CWYW Features • Remove Field Codes • This command will create a second copy of the document with all EndNote field coding removed (you can generally recognize field codes such as formatted EndNote citations by their turning grey when you select them in Word). It is used when sending documents to a publisher because the field coding used for EndNote citations can sometimes cause problems for publishers’ page layout programs.   22. Additional CWYW Features • Export Traveling Library • EndNote creates a hidden “traveling” library containing only the references used in each paper. This traveling library is part of the coded information contained in each citation. Use this command to export the references (exclude Notes, Abstract, Figure & Caption) in this traveling library to a regular EndNote library. Other CWYW Features NUS Medical / Science Library
