  2. What IS ERAS? Electronic Residency Application Service The online common application for most AOA and ACGME internship and residency programs.

  3. ERAS Website https://www.aamc.org/students/medstudents/eras/ • You will eventually have a login to ‘MyERAS’ once the login tokens are made available to the class of 2013 (end of June). This is how you will access and maintain your ERAS application. • Other useful areas of the site: • MyERAS login • Important Dates • Resources/User Guide • Lots of great tutorials! • Participating Specialties/Programs

(cont’d) Components: Student: • Input application fields/create CV • Personal Statement (multiple) • Send: COMLEX and/or USMLE • Select programs/certain documents Career Services: • Attach: Letters of Rec (3-4) per student request • Attach: UNTHSC/TCOM Transcript • Attach: Dean’s Letter/MSPE • Attach: Photo-optional (default: ID photo)

  5. What IS ERAS? (cont’d) Be Prepared to Pay: • $85 for first 10 programs, per Match (AOA, ACGME), per specialty. • Goes up incrementally per program after first 10 applied ($8-15-25/ea.) • Consider all travel expenses!

Letters of Recommendation • Career Services maintains (5 years) • Shoot for 4-6, specialty-specific • Clinical Faculty! • “Confidential” status • Program perception • LOR Request Form (for preceptor) • Summary Request (OrgSync) http://www.hsc.unt.edu/departments/StudentAffairs/CareerServices/ERAS.cfm

Personal Statement • One page (appx. 650-900 words) • Specific to your chosen specialty / career goals • Components: • Explain your specialty choice and how you arrived at it, including a discussion of medical school rotations, clerkships, and other experiences that helped you formulate your decision. Also, why medicine as a career? • Describe what you are seeking in a residency program, i.e. research opportunities, academic research, etc. • Discuss your career goals; what do you plan to do in your chosen field? How can the residency program help you achieve your goals? • Send to Career Services for review

  8. Dean’s Letter/MSPE • Also known as: Medical School Performance Evaluation • Three Phases: • Dean’s Letter Profile~CV/Personal Statement • Dean’s Interview • Writing/editing • ‘MyHSC’: • Interview Scheduling • Profile

  10. ERAS Timeline • June 2012 - Tokens are distributed by Student Affairs around the end of the month • July 1, 2012 (projected) - Applicants begin completion of the online common application • Mid-July 2012 (projected) - Osteopathic programs begin accepting online applications
