  2. You are born into your caste. • Your occupation is determined by your caste. • You cannot change your caste. • You cannot marry or socialize outside of your caste. Rules of the Caste System

  3. Brahmans or high priests • These priests have the responsibility to provide the spiritual and intellectual needs of the society. Brahman Caste

  4. Kshatriyas or the warriors and the rulers • These warriors and rulers have the responsibility to protect the society. Kshatryia Caste

  5. Vaisyas or the merchants, land owners, and skilled workers • These people were responsible for the agriculture and economics of the society. • They also were responsible for skilled trades such as metalworking and shoemaking. Vaisya Caste

  6. Shudras or the laborers and the unskilled workers. • These people are commissioned to do all the human labor for the society such as the farming and building. Shudra Caste

  7. The Untouchables • This is the lowest class who performed all of the jobs relating to bodily decay and dirt (burying the dead, cleaning restrooms, etc.) Dalits/Untouchables/Scheduled Caste
