  2. Levi Strauss was born Löb Strauss, Germany. His parents were named Hirsch and Rebecca Strauss. At the age of 18, Levi Strauss, his mother and two sisters sailed for the United States to join his brothers Jonas and Louis, who had begun a wholesale dry goods business in New York City called J. Strauss Brother & Co. By 1850, Strauss was calling himself Levi. Levi Strauss died on September 26, 1902 at the age of 73. He never married, so he left the business to his four nephews, Jacob, Sigmund, Louis, and Abraham Stern, the sons of his sister Fanny and her husband David Stern. Levi's fortune was estimated to be around 6 million dollars. He was buried in Colma, California. In 1994, Mr. Strauss was inducted into the Junior Achievement U.S. Business Hall of Fame.   3. Levi Strauss was an entrepreneur who invented and marketed blue jeans. Trained as a tailor in Buttenheim, Bavaria, Germany, Strauss went to San Francisco from New York in 1853. Strauss sold dry goods, including tents and linens to the 49ers. In 1873, Strauss and Jacob Davis, a Nevada tailor, patented the idea of using copper rivets at the stress points of sturdy work pants. Early levis, called "waist overalls," came in a brown canvas duck fabric and a heavy blue denim fabric. The duck fabric pants were not very successful, so were dropped early on. His business became extremely successful, revolutionizing the apparel industry. Today, people of all ages still wear Levi Jeans. Blue jeans are no longer a working mans pants but a fashion in today's world. You will find that, almost, everyone in this world today owns a pair of blue jeans.
