  1. Compilation of Natural Gas Statistics Natural gas statistics in the Republic of Azerbaijan: country experience Yusif Yusifov, • Head of the Quality Management and Information • Technologies Department, State Statistical Committee, Republic of Azerbaijan

  2. The Land of Fire - Azerbaijan

  3. Natural gas and Azerbaijan ►Before the 20thcentury as a symbol and heating of local people ►In the 20th century- supply of domestic demand ►Inthe 21st century - as energy safety of EU and neighbors

  4. Energy resources is national wealth • Mining of oil and gas • Oil – since 1871 (by industrial methods 1st in the world) • Natural gas - since 1928 • Oil and gas sector – about half of GDP (2011) • Oil and gas – 100% supply of domestic demand (2011) • Oil and gas factor as a tools for development

  5. Oil and gas – time series • Oil (average per year) • At the beginning of the 20th century - 9,8 million tons • In the middle of the 20th century - 14,8 million tons • At the end of the 20th century - 14,0 million tons • In 2005 – 22,2 million tons • In 2010 – 50,8 million tons • Natural gas (average per year) • At the beginning of the 20th century - 0,0 billion cubic-metres • In the middle of the 20thcentury - 0,2 billion cubic-metres • At he end of the 20th century - 6,0 billion cubic-metres • In 2005 – 5,7 billion cubic-metres • In 2010 – 16,7 billion cubic metres

  6. Superiority of natural gas • Increasing volume of gas than oil • Big reserves, new partnerships, new possibilities

  7. Frequently of needs for gas statistics • For policy makers • Monthly • production (physical and monetary), export, import • Quarterly • All monthly data + transformation, stock changes, losses • Annually • All data for energy balance • For the international organizations • Monthly – JODI, World Bank, CISSTAT • Annually – UN, IEA, Eurostat

  8. Natural gas data for energy balance • For top block of balance - energy supply block, • million cubic-metres

  9. Natural gas data for energy balance • For middle block:transfers, energytransformation, energy industry own use and losses, million cubic-metres

  10. Natural gas data for energy balance • Bottom block– final energy consumption and non-energy use of energy products, million cubic metre

  11. Availability of data on natural gas (1) JODI

  12. Availability of data on natural gas (2) JODI

  13. Availability of data on natural gas (3) • sdfsdfsdfsdff JODI We can report if its needed

  14. Advantages of monthly data collection • To forecasting of the short-term indicators • To supply increasing demand of users • To help energy security • To analyze energy market, prices and etc. • To attract investments

  15. New challenges for natural gas statistics • Improving the quality of metadata • Improving the quality of gas statistics • Improving the methodology according IRES • Improving the data dissemination policy on natural gas statistics
